Computing is a fundamental part of our everyday lives, and its importance is growing by the day. It has very strong links to many careers including technology, science, and engineering, amongst many others.

The staff in the Computing department are not only very experienced with delivering the curriculum but have also spent many years working within the computing industry. These skills allow for St Peter’s to have an excellent curriculum which is taught to students in the best way possible to ensure they support any difficulties or experiences that the students may encounter in their everyday life and working world.

The intent of the Computing department is to develop confident students who will have the necessary skills to be able to interact with computers with conviction and with an excellent range of knowledge and skills.

Our curriculum is designed to provide a ‘spiral’ approach so key concepts can be repeated throughout the curriculum to build on their knowledge. As well as this approach it also adopts a ‘segmented’ and ‘context’ approach. This is ensuring that real live experiences the pupils may have with technology are addressed. Such as how to be a good digital citizen and to practice their Catholic values not only in person but also online and on social media platforms. We also need to ensure that we keep up to date with the ever-changing face of the computing world and that current context and events are covered within the curriculum.

Enabling our pupils to have excellent digital literacy skills as well as ensuring high rates of progress is a primary goal of our department.

At GCSE pupils will follow the OCR specification J277 as well as BTEC Digital Information Technology.

At A Level we offer OCR H446 Computer Science.
